This Week’s Topic: Field
Today’s challenge focuses on your career, or as we like to call it, your Field.
In the first week of this challenge we discussed that as long as you have breath in your lungs you have a purpose. While that remains to be true, identifying your purpose can be somewhat challenging.
I read somewhere that 70% of people can’t stand their job. While working somewhere between 30 to 50 hours a week, I can’t imagine anything more sole crushing. Are you working 8 to 10 hours a day at a job you hate? Or worse, are you then bringing that negativity home with you and creating a toxic environment at home too.
Dissatisfaction with your current work might be a sign that you should look for something more meaningful. Maybe you need to take a leap and quit. Have you always wanted to work for yourself, start your own business, or work somewhere else? Maybe now is the time! Warning: Please do not quit your job, without a plan …
It could also mean that you need a break. Are you feeling burnt out? When was the last time you went on a vacation where you DIDN’T work? If it’s been over a year, stop what you are doing and schedule a vacation. It doesn’t even have to be a long, expensive trip. You could just schedule a weekend away where you go on a hike and leave all your technology behind.
Another common theme with dissatisfaction is your mindset. Has your day become more about serving yourself than serving others? We get it! People are hard to work! It’s easy to switch your focus from helping others to just getting by. If that’s you, I want to personally challenge you to remember what it was like when you first started. Think about your first good review. Reflect on a time when you know you made a difference! Go back to those moments and recommit to being that person!
“Commit you work to the Lord and your plans will be established.” Proverbs 16:3
This Week’s Challenge:
First, if you have a job today, show up and give it your all. Arrive early, stay late, serve others, and be grateful for employment. Instead of thinking, “I have to do this” think, “I get to do this”. Your job isn’t a prison sentence, it’s a privilege.
Second, take time to write down what your dream career would look like? Dream big! If money wasn’t a factor what would you do? What would get you out of bed in the morning excited about the day ahead?
Ask yourself the following questions do discover your purpose:
What do you love doing?
What are you good at?
What can you get paid for?
What does the world need?
This Week’s Affirmations:
I was put on this earth for a reason.
My life has purpose.
I was made for such a time as this.
I am making a difference!
